'RANDOM ACTS OF ART'




Artist Richard VanOver - Short Bio


Richard is presently, Director and Curator for his Non Profit Gallery VANOVER FINE ARTS, INC., which opened Nov 2010 in Springville, NY. He is a full time artist and occasionally works freelances as a sculptor.


2006 Richard partnered with Ben Goresky to start Vinyl Toy Network (VTN) an Annual Designer Vinyl Convention in Pasadena, CA.


After his several years in the entertainment industry as a special effects and Toy sculptor, Richard opened Wheaty Wheat Studios, in Los Angeles, CA, a toy prototyping company and well known producer of Designer Vinyl Art Toys, along with life size and larger than life theater/store displays, such as Kung Fu Panda and Spiderman.

Richard ran the company from its inception in 2001 until it’s close in 2009. He produced Designer Vinyl Toys for and worked with well-known Artists such as John Kricfalusi, Scott Campbell, Joe Ledbetter, Katie Olivas, Christopher Lee and Andrew Bell.

Richard’s products and personal pieces have been featured in many Art book, magazine publications Dot Dot Dash, I am Plastic, MTV Toys - New Designs from the Art Revolution, Full Vinyl and Clutter magazine to name a few, as well as TV shows, music videos and DVD’s.


1999 Richard worked for Gentle Giant Studios in Los Angeles, CA a toy prototyping company, as a sculptor. He quickly became a Lead Toy sculptor/Senior Image Archives Controller/ Department Head of life size projects) for the company. Creating the full size version of Sully and Mike from Monsters Inc. for theaters and Toy R Us stores. Richard along with the owner of Gentle Giant Studios present a set of the full size figures to Pixar Studio in Emeryville, CA.


In 1998 Richard was hired by Disney Imagineering as a sculptor, he soon became a lead sculptor working on featured sculptures for Port Discovery and Indiana Jones Tokyo, Disney and several Disneyland featured sculptures.


In between jobs Richard worked as a freelance sculptor, Sculpting 13’ Ark doors for Stephen S. Wise Temple Los Angles, CA and a Greek Relief 8’ x 5’ Greek relief bronze for Barbra Streisand’s mantle.


He also worked as a special effects sculptor on such movies as Blade, Dogma, Three Kings and Stir of Echoes. Working for Doug White and Tony Gardner. He also worked on countless commercials at this time


In 1996 Richard Moved to California where he became involved in sculpting large pieces for theme parks at Lexington Scenery and Props. He was a lead life size and over sized sculptor.


In 1995 Richard was the curator for a show called ‘Horsehead A Celebration of

Sculpture’ that featured local Cleveland and Seattle based artists.


During college Richard and fellow CIA students founded the guerilla art group ART WITHOUT WALLS, Cleveland, which curated group shows throughout Ohio, PA and NY.


Richard was educated at Cleveland Institute of Art, as a Fine Arts painter. Well attending CIA Richard studied painting under Op Art pioneer, Julian Stanczak. Richard also attended Video Symphony studying 3D modeling and animation and Glendale Community College where he studied 2D Animation under animation master Fred Crippen.

THE NEW YEAR STARTS IN MARCH!

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay in postings but, I've been busy in my studio.

Currently VFA is closed for some minor changes.

We will resuming our show schedule March 4th with 'RANDOM ACTS OF ART' New works by Richard VanOver.

Artist Reception March 4, 2011 6pm -10pm.
Exhibition March 4 - April 3, 2011.




We have some really great shows lined up for this year with local artists and international artists.

There is allot happening this year at VFA, For all you artists out there, we will be starting Life Drawing classes and also introducing Workshops this year. More info will be coming.

Our gallery store will also be opening with gift ideas for the artist and art lover alike.
We will be posting hours as soon as we have the store in order. Hopefully very soon!

Last but not least, this year VFA Memberships will be available, VFA Members will receive discounts on purchases in the gallery and store as well as off life drawing classes and workshops. There will also be special offers available to members only, through out the year.

DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND HESS SHOW EXTENDED!

If you are an art lover and haven't had a chance to see Derek's work.... your in luck, the 'OF FISH AND FOWL' exhibition has been extended. We knows it's hard to get out this way with old man winter setting in.... but if you are heading to Ellicottville area to ski, Check us out we are not to far off the trail, just exit at Springville and head straight down Rt39 until you hit our beautiful historic downtown.

We are about 1/2 mile, straight through the intersection, from the 219 exit!!!

It would be a shame to miss this exhibition, when it is so close!
There are still a few Giclee' prints and originals available! We accept major credit cards and have a payment plan to help you get the Art you love!

This will be a great weekend to Explore Springville, we have Dinning, Boutiques, Antiques and Galleries! So Stop, Shop and Dine on Rt 39!

HESS +VFA - GRAND OPENING ROCKED!






































































We want to thank Everyone one for coming out and making our Grand Opening a huge success!!!!

We meet allot of very cool people from all over.... Buffalo, Lockport, Rochester, NY and Cleveland, The Mayor of Springville came by to say hello and see the show.

It got so busy that I didn't get to take allot of pictures, So if anyone that was there took pics please send them to info@vanoverfinearts.com.

I want to thank Derek for being part of the grand opening show, his artwork is amazing! To my friends Randy and Spodee from Cleveland that drove up and helped get the space finished.

The show is up until Dec. 5, 2010 VANOVER FINE ARTS hours are Friday /Sat. 10-5pm and Sun. 12-5pm. We are also available for appointments during the week. Please contact us a info@vanoverfinearts.com to schedule an appointment.

VFA + DEREK HESS Grand Opening Day!!!






Hi All,

Today is the day! Art work is hung, Derek is in town... all we need is you! 6pm tonight Nov 6th kicks off
VANOVER FINE ARTS! 49 E Main Street, Springville, NY 14141

We are Downtown Springville no where near Wallymart... if you get off the 219 turn left on to 39 ( main street) at the bottom of the Springville exit drive straight thru the first intersection. We are about a 1/2 mile down
on the Right side directly across from True Value Hardware.
There is a huge parking lot behind the building which you can get to from North Buffalo Street( before the VFA at the intersection by the vets) or Pearl street ( after the furniture store) both are right turns.
