"Dames: An Exploration of the Figurative Female"

Our September 8th, 2012 Opening Reception:  6 - 10 pm  with an early viewing from 12 - 4 pm
Featuring figurative artist:  Erika Thurkins - "Dames: An Exploration of the Figurative Female"

"Nude Lounging in a Field" - Medium:  Oils - 38"x 30"

In her first Sole Exhibition, it is Erika’s intention to showcase a few different styles in varying media, She feels there are an infinite number of ways to depict beauty—a beauty every woman possesses, be it conventional or heart wrenching.  You will see rainbow-hued bodyscapes, traditional Rubenesque paintings, and you will also see various figures rendered arbitrarily in rather inconspicuous postures. Her work is also known for its capture of subtle emotion, which allows for open interpretation by its viewers, and for its feminist undertones.

Erika attended Shippensburg University where she won several top awards in the Art Department’s annual juried exhibitions, a seat as the art department representative for the University Student Council, and eventually graduated with a BA in Fine Arts.  After relocating to Western New York, she then gained a competitive spot as an intern for the Curatorial Department of the Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo.  Erika now resides in West Falls, NY with her husband and new baby.
